Abstract

A Benedictine historian active at Worcester Cathedral Priory from about 1095 and until after 1141, John of Worcester was author of at least two histories: Chronica chronicarum, an Anglo-centric version of the world history compiled by Marianus Scotus, and Chronicula, a compact version of the same work. He may also have composed two others: a Cronica de Anglia found in a Rievaulx manuscript and the lost source of the Winchcombe and Coventry Chronicles. Both works certainly draw on the same fund of material.
