Abstract

This essay discusses the role of music to the society, its cultural influence and development, and its importance to social cohesion. It relates the psychedelic music of the people in Goa in India, highlighting the popularity, development and aesthetics of Goa trance dance music, and describes how people in the area inculcate to themselves their musical culture. It provides insights on how the music promotes social cohesion, identity and networks, and explains the mediation model. It cites insights from musical and social theorist particularly Theodore Adorno on the role of music to the society.
