Project partners from industry and research are developing a laser structuring machine at the Fraunhofer IPT Aachen within the framework of the BMBF (Federal Ministry of Education and Research) aided InnoNet project “FlexOStruk”. The purpose of the project is the development of a self contained process chain to fine structure free form surfaces. The automotive and the consumer industry have a special interest for the production of 3D-workpiece surfaces with fine structures. Kinematical and geometrical influences play a decisive part in the achievement of the necessary precision of producing the structures. The goal of this paper is to examine the geometrical and the kinematical deviations of the Tool Centre Point (TCP) from the target position to optimise the laser structuring process. A precision in the range of a few micrometers is necessary for the production of the final structures.
