Abstract

The role of the typographer or information designer is changing drastically as a consequence of new technology. It is the purpose of this article to identify the ways in which this role is developing. In a follow-up article procedures and guidelines will be highlighted that may help the typographer dealing with new technology, and a controlled experimental evaluation of the effectiveness of these guidelines will be described.
