Additional Information:
This major sole authored publication brings together research carried out over the past 4-5 years. It examines a highly important, and to some contentious, area of online learning and teaching ie the dynamics, learning processes and outcomes of groups and communities working in e-learning contexts. The book provides a critical analysis of theories of 'community'. Taking an innovative virtual ethnography approach, the book illustrates how new technologies can be used to support distributed learners, and how innovative course design can be used to provide a rich, supportive learning environment, thus discounting claims that online learning cannot be of a high quality. The book has been critically acclaimed (eg Sanjaya Mishra (2006) British Journal of Educational Technology 37 (6), 983'984.) and is being used as a core text on Masters courses (eg see http://216.239.59.104/search?q=cache:2yxvBH5pKtoJ:www.hull.ac.uk/cld/programme/pgcerthe/documents/ModuleSpecificationTwo.doc+reviews+of+%22E-learning+groups+and+communities%22&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=15&gl=uk) RAE_import_type : Authored book RAE_uoa_type : Education
