Abstract

Gastrocnemius muscle fascicle behavior during stair negotiation in humans. J Appl Physiol 102: 1618–1623, 2007. First published December 21, 2006; doi:10.1152/japplphysiol.00353.2006. An error occurred in the calculation of the musculotendon complex (MTC) length change for both stair ascent and descent presented in Figs. 3 and 4 and in Tables 1 and 2. As a consequence, the calculated tendon length change is also incorrect. The error does not change the discussion and the conclusions made, except for one point: The energy stored in the tendon after the touch-down during stair descent is not all absorbed by the lengthening fascicles (as was originally concluded). Some of the energy appears to be used for plantarflexing the ankle joint during lift-off. The corrected figures and tables are shown below
