Corpus linguistics is a scientific method for the theoretical and applied analysis of language. It allows the investigation of large digital collections of texts (written texts and transcripts of spoken language) and provides empirical evidence for the fine-grained analysis of linguistic features. One of the applications of corpus methods is in the field of language testing and assessment. Corpus linguistics can be beneficial to language testing and assessment informing the test cycle at different stages, for test design and validation, examiner training and standardization, as well as for developing automated scoring and feedback systems in computer-based tests.
