Abstract

Psychologists in rural areas face a number of professional challenges. Geographical isolation can be particularly challenging, making it difficult for psychologists to seek or receive needed support from colleagues. Colleague assistance programs administered by state psychological associations provide support to psychologists facing personal or professional difficulties. This article explores challenges faced by rural psychologists and provides an assessment of needs and interest conducted to assist in development of 1 such program in a rural state. Findings suggest psychological associations in rural states and territories can better meet the needs of rural psychologists by providing programming facilitating support and connection.
