The literature on emotional labour has made many forays beyond its origins in service work and into the professions, although surprisingly few of these have related to its application to consultancy work. Issues of identity and identity work have also been fruitfully explored in organizational contexts, although again with limited reference to consultancy contexts. Taking a discursive psychology informed approach, the current paper explores the interweaving of these two practices in the real-time accomplishment of consultancy work.
