Abstract

Throughout history drawing has been used to record and visualise information at the limits of human vision. As artists working with drawing in contexts where vision alone is challenged, our particular interest is to examine the strategies used in drawing to capture information at the edge of or beyond the limits of vision. Drawing on contemporary and historical examples we will explore how artists have challenged their graphic competencies, where traditional methods help, and where they break down. This will lead us to examine a number of innovative contemporary drawing practices to ask what strategies do contemporary artist use today to help us perceive the non- visual?
