Abstract

In general, DSP can be regarded as a relatively inexpensive range of technologies in which the cost per defined function is tending to decrease with time. The increasing number of devices and greater device densities per chip mean that the complexity of algorithms that can be implemented via DSP is also increasing progressively. A generalised radio system design, which forms the framework for the paper, typically employs a mix of technologies, such as: antenna design; RF power generation; frequency synthesis; amplification and filtering; frequency mixing; channel coding/decoding; channel state monitoring; system control and protocol generation; user interface design
