Abstract

Produced by Artevents as part of their Re-enchantment project, Fissure was a one-off walking performance work in the Yorkshire Dales that lasted three days. As the audience walked over dales, into limestone caves and up mountains, six dancers and six singers evoked key events in the relationship between two sisters as one of them suffers and dies from a brain tumour. Exploring the analogy between physical processes in the landscape and the brain, and processes of love, loss, grief and transformation, the project was developed over three years with the involvement of neurologists, geologists, cavers, mountain leaders, and other individuals and organizations with specialist local knowledge.
