Abstract

The advantages of engendering eco-design principles within the design stages of manufacturing operations have resulted in a greater level of efficiency for many large organisations. However, due to the operational priorities and day-to-day commitments of Small to Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs) within the manufacturing sector, many smaller firms have been unable to reap the benefits of integrating such approaches. The SIMPLE Project (Successful Implementation of Eco-design Methodologies into SMEs) delivered a business support solution that enabled SMEs to adopt new approaches that provided them with significant benefits, whilst being sympathetic to the needs and demands of smaller companies.
