Quick's role: co-Director (50%) and co-writer (50%). Hotel Methuselah draws on specific narratives of 50s and 60s British and French cinema and is informed by theoretical writings on film and performance. It specifically seeks to explore how ethical questions might be produced in the spectator through the juxtaposition of the representational forms of cinema and theatre. Specific thematic concerns around violence, responsibility, gender politics and memory are investigated in the context of work that seeks to create an original aesthetic experience for audiences. The piece's primary aim is to stimulate the spectator into thinking how contemporary dominant aesthetic forms inform his/her understanding of time and memory. Consequently, the piece attempts to subvert and question how these forms shape us as individuals by revealing their constructed nature. Quick's particular theoretical background is focused on the question of performance's potential to pose ethical questions and his work has centred around the thinking of Lyotard, Agamben and Badiou, who have all written on cinema, theatre and contemporary fine art. Hotel Methuselah has been the focus of a series of symposia investigating practice as research and postdramatic theatre. This includes conferences at universities of Huddersfield, Frankfurt, London Metropolitan and Lancaster and Quick has delivered papers on Hotel Methuselah in Chile, USA, Bristol and Lancaster. He has also submitted excerpts and a critical analysis for the forthcoming PARIP DVD publication at Bristol University, November 2007. Essays written for a one day symposium at Lancaster on Hotel Methuselah have been published and are available via the ITD website (Professor Jackie Stacey, Manchester University; Cindy Weber, Lancaster University and Jonathan Munby, Lancaster University). Hotel Methuselah will continue touring in 2008 in Estonia and Finland. RAE_import_type : Performance RAE_uoa_type : LICA
