This paper presents an electromagnetic approach for visualizing the molten steel distribution within a pouring nozzle such as that used in continuous casting. The tomographic system consists of a sensor array, data acquisition unit, associated conditioning circuitry, and host computer, which have been purposely designed and constructed for hot trials. The paper addresses the problems encountered in hot trials such as the thermal effects on the measured coil outputs, and presents the image results of the real steel flow profiles.
