Abstract

This study analyses an introductory undergraduate course in OB. It discusses different views and assumptions about students, about the OB domain itself, and about pedagogical strategies. It argues that mainstream approaches are dominated by functionalist and structuralist models which limit the value of learning. We discuss a new course which takes a phenomenological and historical approach to introducing students to the academic concerns of thinking about management and organisations.
