The Journal of Interactive Media in Education (JIME) was launched in September 1996. To mark the 30th anniversary year of the journal, we have assembled a virtual special collection of the most frequently viewed papers published in JIME to-date, identified using the JIME website metrics. In this editorial, we introduce the papers in the collection and also narratively situate them against a backdrop of trends in topics within the journal in each of the three decades that have passed. We also reflect on the origins and evolution of JIME and look ahead to the future.
