Abstract

There is described a method of reading an optically readable security element by an image capturing device, wherein the optically readable security element comprises a first area and a second area, the second area comprising an identity, the method comprising: reading the first area as a first reading; reading the second area as a second reading; and using the first reading and the second reading to determine whether a first area-illumination interaction occurring at the first area is different to a second area-illumination interaction occurring at the second area.
