Abstract

In this chapter, how to ensure good recruitment to palliative care research studies is outlined. It begins by explaining what the term recruitment means, why it is important, and why it is a challenging clinical activity in palliative care. It then highlights important points to think about when planning and running a research study. These include: the type and number of organizations needed to ensure there is a sufficient pool of eligible participants; who will be responsible for recruiting study participants; how study participants will be identified, approached, and consented; how staff will be prepared to recruit to the study; and how to ensure clinicians are engaged throughout the study.
