The subject of this chapter is NEP2 peptidase (insect). NEP2 has been characterized by Drosophila melanogaster. It is a secreted Glu-zincin metallo-oligopeptidase cleaving peptide such as locust tachykinin; cleavage is often N-terminal to a hydrophobic residue. Unusually amongst neprilysins, which are often type II integral membrane proteins, NEP2 is soluble. NEP2 is strongly expressed in the salivary glands, Malpighian tubules, and spermathecae.
