The upstairs area at Termini feels distinctly like an airport: it has a bright, sanitized look, whitewash walls, chain restaurants, electric departure boards, routinized announcements, and general sense of separation. [I’m] down in the bowels of Termini. There are a few homeless migrants loitering, standing, chatting. The seating around the escalator into the main station has been cordoned off and the toilets are closed. Where do people go except stand around?
