Abstract

This research builds an integrated framework on the influence of three types of innovations, i.e. strategic, management, and technological innovations, on firm competitiveness. Empirical research from 303 paired Chinese enterprises supports the proposed chain multiple mediation model. Results indicate that strategic innovation strengthens firm competitiveness through three parallel routes. First, strategic innovation improves firm competitiveness by enhancing management innovation. Second, strategic innovation positively impacts firm competitiveness by stimulating technological innovation. Third, strategic innovation enhances firm competitiveness through the serial mediating effect of management innovation and technological innovation. Besides, the mediation effect of management innovation is significantly stronger than that of technological innovation.
