Abstract

This chapter discusses the challenges confronting society in times of permacrisis, focusing on healthcare, where multiple long-term crises are often overlooked that demand bold, collective and caring responses. Although it is recognised that design research and practice could be used as a tool to address complex healthcare challenges, particularly through participatory design approaches, there is a need to develop an understanding of how design genuinely demonstrates care in difficult times. This chapter offers recommendations on how to care for the individuals at the core of participatory healthcare processes and how to embed interdisciplinary impact effectively.
