With regard to recent developments in public diplomacy, the increasing fusion of strategic communication appears necessary. This is particularly the case when discussions are subordinated to advocate image or reputation. China engages in public diplomacy with an objective to reshape its national image abroad, while hosting international events appear to advocate positive images . The present research focuses on framing of the Belt and Road Forum ( in May 2017 via two quantitative content analyses. Study 1 compares news frames between the USA and Pakistan media reports (N=364). Study 2 subsequently analyzes Facebook users comments on the selected coverage (N=957). Results reveal that China’s image is framed more positive ly in Pakistani media than that of in the US . Besides, more diverse frame clusters are polymerize d in Pakistani media. Nevertheless, China’s image is perceived with rare differences in Facebook comments. In conclusion, the BRF has served as an eye catching advocacy of Chinese foreign policy. Yet China s public diplomacy practices tend to follow a traditional top down communication , which needs meticulous subdivision of target audiences, delicate messaging tactic s, and integrated strateg ies .
