Abstract

This chapter provides an overview of the peer review process for research articles in journals for editors, authors, and reviewers. It presents information on the key stages of typical journal peer review processes in a logical fashion, explaining the decisions being made at each juncture. It provides guidelines on the key areas to be addressed when peer reviewing a journal article: overall impressions, titles and abstracts, rigour of methods, congruence of findings, and implications for practice, policy, and further research. Information to authors is provided on how to respond to peer review comments, including how to structure the response. The strengths and limitations of the peer review system are explored.
