Abstract

China has not only the largest population in the world but also the largest workforce of around 750 million people. Despite this huge potential, multinational enterprises (MNEs) often highlight recruitment of talent as their main business challenge in China. This chapter provides an overview of recruitment in China, elaborating on recruitment and selection, considering different segments of the applicant pool (vocational school graduates, university graduates, and experienced hires), and distinguished by company ownership (MNEs, Chinese private firms, and state-owned enterprises). Furthermore, the authors provide an overview of the latest recruitment solutions powered by artificial intelligence. Based on their overview, they provide specific recommendations for future research and management practice.
