Abstract

The exploitation of electromagnetic waves is at the basis of the technology progress of contemporary and future society. Wireless networks, radar, satellite communications are only the main example of the widespread use of electromagnetic radiation. However, the increasing amount of electromagnetic radiation sources is rising concerns on possible health effect and impact on the correct functioning of broad range of devices, some of them with safety and health implications. The assessment of the safe level of radiation for human, the measures to reduce the exposure, and the material properties for absorbing and shielding the electromagnetic radiation are of high relevance for a safe and effective use of this outstanding medium.
