Abstract

The novel offset double corrugated waveguide is proposed as slow wave structure for wide band TWTs at sub-THz frequencies as enabling power amplifier for long range sub-THz links. The double corrugated waveguide has been conceived to relax the fabrication, main technological challenge for sub-THz vacuum tube realization, maintaining high performance. The offset double corrugated waveguide has the same advantages of the double corrugated waveguide in terms of fabrication, but it provides a higher interaction impedance. In the paper, the offset double corrugated waveguide has been designed and compared to the double corrugated waveguide in the 150 - 161 GHz frequency range, demonstrating the higher interaction impedance, beneficial for improving TWT performances.
