This project examined the potential for physical movement and vocalisation exercises to facilitate self-expression among adults with serious learning disabilities. Responding to recent Applied Theatre scholarship and practice, the author-facilitator developed a series of Forum Theatre workshops that utilised creative, embodied expression alongside more traditional narrative approaches. The workshops culminated in a public sharing event with university students, to test the extent to which the chosen theatrical techniques produced social and political confidence and engagement. The practice-based research demonstrated the potential for untrained, learning disabled participants to productively make use of physical theatre and voice techniques to enhance their capacity to engage democratically with the wider public.
