Abstract

In this paper, we investigate in time domain the effects of mooring lines on the performance of the TALOS WEC by developing a fully coupled numerical model. A 4-leg spread catenary mooring system is proposed and four different mooring lines’ configurations are compared including slack and moderately slack moorings, as well as different fairlead placement. Results (motions, mooring lines’ tensions and absorbed power) are obtained for regular and irregular head and oblique waves. For the examined wave conditions, the results indicate a precedence of moderately slack moorings, when both functionality and structural integrity requirements are taken into account.
