Abstract

Based on a of a 2-year ethnography in a secondary school in Portugal, this chapter identifies six organizational factors that influence and characterize the forms of occupation of the school: (1) Time and Timetables, (2) Routines and Routes, (3) Functional Distribution and Hierarchies, (4) Activities, (5) Space Control and (6) Facilities. The chapter theorizes the importance of recognizing the identified organizational factors as key means to empower a more effective occupation and consecutive increase of place attachment and learning experiences.
