Abstract

These books include links to fully-integrated (blended) online multimedia resources and AI prompts to elicit feedback on your own work as you plan and execute your doctoral research. Each book in the series addresses its topic as concisely as possible while the online resources and AI feedback form the basis for reflection and improvement of your research and your thesis. While the focus of research in the books is the study of higher education, the advice applies to all qualitative social science research. In this book on theory you will develop a sophisticated approach to using theory and concepts, one which your examiners will find relevant, informative, thoroughly integrated with, and doing work for, the rest of your thesis. You will find AI prompts throughout the book. These have been tested using Bing chat (which at the time of writing has a 4000 character word limit in ‘creative’ mode). Appendix 2 gives my test prompts and responses. All AI responses should be treated as the basis for reflection and discussion with your supervisor, not as definitive answers.
