In this chapter the importance of disseminating your research so that it can create impact is addressed. Dissemination is an ethical and moral imperative where human subjects have given their time to contribute to research, but it is also a key factor in reducing future research waste, guiding further work, and shaping policy and practice. Here, we focus on identifying some of the key issues associated with dissemination and impact, with pointers to activities that applied health researchers can engage with to maximize the dissemination and impact of their research. The actions and purpose of doing this are presented using the taxonomy of diffusion (a passive approach), dissemination (tailoring information to audiences) and implementation (an active process, with systematic efforts to encourage application), with examples of activities within each of these approaches.
