Abstract

What is a healthy city, there are multiple dimensions of what we mean by a healthy city healthy for whom or what and there are many measures and performance indicators by which to evaluate a city. But how do we decide what to do and how to design a place for a heathy future. This talk will draw on research undertaken over the past 15 years, that has identified the dimensions of an environment that affects human health and wellbeing in terms of both noncommunicable and communicable disease and the process of design decision-making. It will go on to describe through a case study the challenges of faced by a client, their team, the architect to develop a future place that will evolve over time to support a flourishing and health population and environment and that investors will find attractive.
