Working at the time of fracture between the sciences, classical studies, poetry and religion, Ruskin was one of the last truly interdisciplinary thinkers. This special issue features papers by scholars from across the arts, humanities and sciences, all of whom participated in The Ruskin’s ‘Thinking Fast and Slow’ seminar series during the winter and spring of 2018. Taking orientation from the work of Daniel Kahneman, the contributors to this series examined and debated the different modes of cognition and perception that characterise Ruskin’s approach to subjects ranging from art and architecture to science and travel to the theatre and theology.
