The 2014 Special Issue, Volume 63 of Computer Networks, focuses on Future Internet Testbeds. The issue consists of a set of papers that describe an interesting variety of experiments, methods, tools, deployment and usage of Internet testbeds. The first paper, 'Using GENI For Experimental Evaluation of Software Defined Networking in Smart Grids' describes how the GENI testbed is used to explore the modularity and flexibility, and low cost, of SDN in providing automatic fail-over mechanisms, load balancing, and QoS guarantees in a smart grid, running experiments in locations from Kansas, to Texas, to locations on the West and East coasts. 'Experimentation on End-to-end Performance Aware Algorithms in the Federated Environment of the Heterogeneous PlanetLab and NITOS Testbeds' uses a scheme that was built during the Onelab 2 EU project, to federate the NITOS wireless testbed with the wired PlanetLab Europe testbed. A framework called OMF-F is next described in 'Designing and Orchestrating Reproducible Experiments on Federated Networking Testbeds'.
