Ad-hoc sensor networks are getting more and more important for public security and counter-terrorist applications. Data provided from airborne sensors are of specific interest in given scenarios. This article illuminates various aspects which originate from the integration of uninhabited aerial platforms in such networks. After giving some background on the PROACTIVE project, the text specifically addresses usability and networking issues by providing an overview on the approaches and methods chosen as well as experiments conducted by the respective project partners.
