Additional Information:
The publisher of this book commissioned it as a commercial venture meant for a lay audience, and secondarily as a text, and it has been written accordingly. However, it aims to provide original research. (i) Structurally, it is one of the few, if not the first systematic comparison between Indian and Chinese thought. (ii) It develops ways of mapping the traditions through explanatory concepts in order to make such comparison meaningful. (iii) Several specific interpretations of various thinkers and schools seek to be philosophically novel and constructive, and have been recognised as such by scholars of Indian, Chinese and comparative thought since it was published e.g. Joseph Grange (Philosophy East and West) and Richard Hayes (The Financial Times).
