Abstract

This paper outlines experimental work undertaken to assess the impact of powerline deployment in close proximity to a relatively low power (HF) radio link terminal, and in particular with reference to close proximity in-building power line transmission (PLT) systems. The paper suggests a methodology for comparing the theoretical (calculated free space), near and far field propagation characteristics of high frequency radio waves, with measured values. This information is then utilised to develop a high frequency (HF) radio communications link benchmark (RCLB) for the assessment of the potential impact of a wide range of wireline services.
