Abstract

CIE-XYZ, CIE-xyz and CIE-Lab colour systems were used to parametrise the spectra from MSP-DAD microspectrophotometry for ten replicates of each of forty inks. The colour coordinates for each replicate, for each ink, were then used to calculate pairwise likelihood ratios for the source level propositions of same/different ink source. Empirical cross entropy was selected as an appropriate measure of performance for each system. Both univariate and bivariate likelihood ratios within each colour system were calculated. The bivariate combinations of the CIE-xyz set of colour parameterisations achieve the best results, whereas those derived from the CIE-XYZ set was found to have the greatest number of misleading cases.
