An introduction into the basic concepts and theories of both the German and the Italian strand of 'fiscal sociology' with their different roots in the Weberian and the Paretian tradition of sociology. The use value of these concepts in the present junction of time, with regard to the interrelationship between public finance and financial markets is assessed.
