These pages announce ongoing research into new definitions and methods of analysis for social history. In this particular case study, the focus is on English social history between c.1600 and the present. The aim is to arrive at a definition of 'folk' which is equally applicable to periods and cultural production in the past as it might be to cultural production in the present.
