In the prologue to the Spanish edition Prof. Paul Preston (LSE) described it as a 'remarkable book' with a 'pioneering methodology' As with the very finest local histories, this is one that casts its light far beyond the immediate boundaries of the Catalan capital.' In his The Spanish Civil War: Reaction, Revolution and Revenge (2006), Preston also noted its 'seminal importance' tremendous range and depth'. According to Jordi Canyiss', writing in Canal Cultura, the book 'has invited me to see Barcelona through con otros ojos'.
