Additional Information:
This chapter was commissioned to form part of a festschrift for Professor Aidan Clarke, retiring as Erasmus Smith's Chair of Modern History, Trinity College Dublin. It marks a development of the work on prejudice (see output 2), in that it looks at the attitudes and policies of comparative hegemonic powers towards subaltern peoples in the 17th century; in this case the 'Transplantation of the Irish' and the expulsion of the Moriscos from Spain.
