The real-time digital assessment of the ratios of gamma rays to neutrons in mixed radiation elds arising from standard isotopic radioactive sources is presented. A bespoke fast digitizer, which has been developed by the Hybrid Instruments Ltd. (Lancaster, UK), has been used to digitise neutron and gamma events detected by BC501A organic liquid scintillator detector. The digitised raw data for each individual pulse have been collected for four dierent mixed radiation elds. These measurements have been taken at the low-scatter facility of National Physical Laboratory (London, UK). Three dierent algorithms have been used to discriminate the digitised neutrons and gammas in each mixed radiation eld. These are the digital Charge Comparison Method (CCM),Pulse Gradient Analysis (PGA) and Neutron-Gamma Model Analysis (NGMA). Gamma-to-neutron ratios, often referred to as r-factors, have been calculated and compared for each mixed radiation eld, for digitally discriminated neutrons and rays providing a basis for reference where future r-factor analysis of isotopic sources is to be carried out, or where reference to these elds is desired.
