Additional Information:
This paper was published in the peer-reviewed academic journal Perception. It focuses on the role of texture in tactile picture perception, relating the results to theories of visual perceptual organisation. It provides one of the few systematic, experimental studies exploring the effects of stimulus properties on tactile picture perception. It also addresses the relatively neglected area of haptic perceptual organisation, drawing on theories from the field of visual perceptual organisation. In exploring the viability of theories of visual perception to haptic perception, this paper takes a novel approach in a field which more often compares and contrasts haptic and visual perception. This paper is beginning to influence other academic work not only through its findings, but also through its focus on investigating the variables which influence tactile picture perception. Work was primarily that of the first author, undertaken as part of her Ph.D. thesis. RAE_import_type : Journal article RAE_uoa_type : Education
