Abstract

Recent exciting advances in physics at millikelvin temperatures have been made possible by an ample and relatively cheap supply of helium-3 for operating dilution refrigerators, but it looks very much as though this happy situation is now coming to an end, with an impending world-wide shortage of the gas.
