Abstract
Supercold is intended to illuminate, for non-scientists, the huge and growing area of technology which depends on cold in one form or another. Super is to be taken as implying excellence rather than extremity since the book is not devoted exclusively to the latest nuclear adiabatic demagnetisation experiments, although these are in fact described.
