Thermodynamics, though developed in the 19th century, remains to this day one of the most widely applicable of all scientific theories. In his book, C.B.P. Finn starts off with an effective quotation from Einstein: "...classicaI thermodynamics has made a deep impression on me. It is the only physical theory of universal content which I am convinced, within the areas of its basic applicability, will never be overthrown".
