We report measurements of field-emission/ionisation currents from sharp tungsten points held between ± 5kV into liquid helium in the range 0.3-4.2 K; and direct observation of a glowing microscopic bubble of vapour enveloping the emitting tip. We discuss the complex temperature dependence of the current in terms of a spacecharge trapped on vorticity.
